What is the time commitment to participate in Scaler8?
The time commitment to participate in Scaler8 varies with the stages of the programme.
Stage 1: Half-day session in Singapore
Stage 2: 7 weeks in Singapore + 1 week immersion trip to Germany
Stage 3: 4 weeks in Singapore + 12 weeks in Germany

Do I have to attend all stages of the programme?
All three stages can be attended separately. It is recommended to participate in the stages subsequently to create the best preconditions for your expansion.
Stages 1 & 2: It is recommended for you, but not compulsory, to register for Stage 1 before Stage 2. You must complete Stage 2 to qualify for the one-week immersion trip to Germany.
Stage 3: You can apply for Stage 3 directly. A pitch to the selection committee is part of the selection process. The attendance of Stage 1 and 2 is not a prerequisite, but highly recommended in order to adequately prepare for successful expansion to Germany.
Which team member should attend?
Stage 1: Interested parties from startups and tech SMEs are invited to join Stage 1 to learn about the German and European markets and industries.
Stages 2 & 3: At least one of the founders or C-level executives should attend together with a member with significant business background and expertise. There is a maximum of 2 participants per company for these stages.
Stages in Germany - Do you help with visa/immigration issues?
As visa/immigration issues can vary according to your personal situation, we recommend that you obtain expert advice and/or contact the German Embassy in Singapore for further clarification on visa requirements.
Stages in Germany - Where will I live during the programme?
That’s up to you. We don’t provide accommodation but we can provide recommendations to find an appropriate place.
Stages in Germany - Do you also provide office space in other locations in Germany?
The landing pads for the programme are designated to be in Berlin and Munich.
Mentoring – What do I need to know?
Mentoring is available for companies who apply and qualify for Stage 3. Our mentor network in Germany and Singapore consists of experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts. We will match you with one or several individuals with the relevant experience and expertise to support your company during the programme.
Does my company qualify for the Scaler8 programme?
The programme is open to Singapore-registered startups or small-medium enterprises (SMEs). Companies who would like to participate in Stage 3 are required to pitch to a selection committee, who will assess your company’s:
- Growth potential of the product and/or service in Germany and Europe
- Commitment to establish German operations
- Funding and/or revenue to support the expansion strategy
Can I apply if our company or founders are not from Singapore?
As long as your company is incorporated in Singapore, you are welcome to apply. Your founder’s nationality does not affect participation in the stages of the programme.
How much does it cost to participate in the programme?
As the Scaler8 programme is supported by Enterprise Singapore, participants of the programme are given an immediate 70% subsidy on the cost of participation for Stage 2 and Stage 3. There are no additional forms or applications required for this grant for companies that are accepted into the stages.
Each stage is priced separately:
- Stage 1: free
- Stage 2: S$5,000/company (S$5,350 inclusive of GST)
- Stage 3: S$15,000/company* (S$16,050 inclusive of GST)
*Subsidised price includes programme costs for a maximum of 2 participants per company. It excludes cost of travel, accommodation and meals. For Stage 3, subsidised price includes office space.
Does Scaler8 take equity or options from the participating companies?
No. We take no equity in your company.
How do we make payments for the various stages?
Payment modes include bank transfer. More information will be provided upon confirmation of your application.
What are the payment terms and refund policies?
Full payment must be made within 5 working days from the invoice date for each module.
Refunds are not available. If your nominated representatives are not able to participate in the programme, you are allowed to nominate a substitute or defer your participation to the next cycle.
How do I apply for the various stages?
How long does the selection process take?
Stage 3: The selection committee will make a decision on your application within approximately 5 working days after your pitch.
Can I re-apply if I did not qualify previously?
We select the companies that we believe have the greatest potential to benefit from the programme. If you are not accepted the first time you apply, you are welcome to re-apply for another programme start date. In addition to the market potential in Germany, we focus on the readiness of your organisation as an important factor to join the programme.
